The late afternoon sun streams in the window.  The studio looks quite serene.  Equipment is set up in perfect order.  There is a nervous excitement in the air.  And for good reason.  In about 10 minutes, it’s going to get absolutely crazy in here.

We aren’t here to knock out some bro splits.  We aren’t here to dance walk on the treadmill while watching youtube.
We are here to work and there are usually two trainers in the room who won’t let us get away with anything less than a damn good effort.

F45 was created in Australia and is based on High-Intensity Interval Training.  It was designed in Australia and its taken way too long to come to Hamilton.  And soon we will have two! (can’t wait – very excited!)

The F stands for functional and the 45 for the 45 minutes that you spend in the studio.  They call it Team Training – there’s normally 10-30 people in our classes and every class ends in a high five. It might sound a little ridiculous, but after you have slugged it out (competing against yourself) in a room with these people, a high five goes a long way.

F45 is circuit training on steroids – but without the ‘roids.  No workout is the same, there’s a team of very smart and fit people designing each week, and the classes push you.  Either with cardio based days on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays or with weighs and resistance days on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

And then there’s Hollywood on Saturday – ask someone if they have been to Hollywood.  If their face lights up and they start to get twitchy, you know they have been.  Its a party in itself.

About 10 weeks ago, I signed up for a free trial with the first F45 to open in Hamilton.  I went to 2 classes before I decided that I loved it.
Since then, I’ve attended exactly 45 classes.  And I have probably about the same amount already booked and lined up in my schedule.

My weight has totally stabilised.  I’ve been in maintenance for almost 18 months and even though I could feel little muscles growing, my overall fitness was also on a plateau.  I’d like to drop back a couple of kilograms now but the main goal is fat loss and working towards a thigh lift later.  More on that in another post.
Prior to starting F45, we were working out 6-7 days a week, mostly weight training and basically following a 12-week program on my BodySpace from bodybuilding.com app.  It wasn’t that I wasn’t enjoying it – I LOVE weight training – but it was time to mix it up.

I go 6 days a week, Monday through Saturday, not just because I like the workouts but also because I really like the community around the studio.
Then I calculate the weekly cost per class.  The more I go, the cheaper each class is.  And where else can you have 45 minutes per day with a Personal Trainer that won’t break the bank?

The F45 Trainers aren’t just there to watch you – they push you, help you with your form and even hold your hand.
Thanks to Jess, my back positioning is so so much better than it was 6 weeks ago.  Ange physically held my hand for my first box jumps.

If you take the time to share a little of yourself, and your goals and fears, this team will help you smash through what is important to you.  And that’s worth more than a membership fee as far as I’m concerned.

I am a lot fitter and stronger than I was 6-7 weeks ago.  I have a room where I am not afraid to fail one day and come back the next to try all over again.  The schedule fits into our lives and we can get over to the studio at 5 in the morning and be back at home to sort out the puppies.  I’ve even started making new friends.

Have you ever wanted to try it?  Is there anything you’d like to ask me.  Drop me a note below.

So why am I addicted to F45 training?  Because its fucking awesome – that’s why.
