November 2018 saw my three-year surgeriversary.  Time is passing by so quickly these days (not that it is a bad thing except birthdays roll around too quickly) and whilst I did get up an Instagram, post, I didn’t manage to finish a blog to celebrate!

Whilst I had always intended this blog to be more, I guess that occasions like this speak to the fact that Instagram is my actual diary (please note, trolls, MY diary and not yours) and that this blog is here for something more. Namely recipe collections, big notes and …. well I am sure something else will come it eventually.

But what are we here for today? Well. I’m getting to the stage where I am less Tara who had weight loss surgery and more Tara who is a little bit more than addicted to F45 and likes cooking healthy meals. I am actually living the life I imagined when I imagined myself healthy and happy. There’s just one little thing. And its not a huge thing really. Well, it is to me.

All my loose skin is in the region of my hips to knees. I’ve said it before – when I lie down, I look like a melted candle. But that’s not the bit I really care about.

When I workout (cardio – running, jumping, leaping), it hurts. I can feel the movement, the weight of it and some days, there are tears. For a few hours after class, my thighs are very very tender – sometimes I have to choose my trousers or outfits based on what I can pull over what feels like bruising.

So there’s a couple of solutions …
1. Keep wearing Clique Fitness leggings (honestly, THE BEST compression leggings I have ever worn) and just deal with the pain. I can pick and choose the cardio days that I do and I can change some of the exercises however there’s a large part of me that wants to keep going, that wants to do everything everyone else does and who just wants … to be normal!
2. Have surgery. And this is what we are talking about today.

In June 2019, I am going to Thailand with Destination Beauty to have a thigh lift and some liposuction.

Yes, I could have had it done here in New Zealand however I have not had any of my enquiry calls or emails returned by the surgeon’s office excluding the very first one I sent in July last year.

Dr Kasemsak will use an incision on my inner thighs to remove the loose skin from there. Then, as apparently I have done a great job, there’s not enough loose skin on my butt to do an operation so he will do liposuction to even out that area. That’s a bit exciting!

I’ll spend approximately 5 nights in the hospital for both procedures and then another 12 days recovering in the Hospital Apartments.
They bring us breakfast each day, the nurse visits every second day and there is an afternoon tea twice a week. And one of the biggest reasons for me choosing to go to Thailand now is that my friend Chantelle (who had surgery there last year) will be leading our ‘group’. She’s going to take care of me as Ken will be staying home to babysit the puppies. And to have the house all clean and prepped for when I get home 🙂

The estimated total cost of my surgery is $12,500 NZD plus $2,500 for return flights. I have budgeted a bit extra for the return flight as I am hoping I can save enough to upgrade myself to a lie flat or just a larger seat.
Thanks to some absolutely wonderful friends, and a Givealittle page, I have paid my deposit for my surgery and am now saving madly to get the other $12,500.

The Givealittle page is still open if you have any coins to help me out on this journey. I’m so very very very grateful for everything I have received so far.

I’ve got 14 weeks (13 as of next Monday) to prepare myself for surgery.

I’m treating it like a project, like training, almost like a challenge.
My goal is to build some more muscle, lose some more body fat and be in a great mental state. Sounds easy right??
We will see. I’m currently still in freak out mode, to be honest!
Not having Ken there with me scares me a bit. Even though we can’t afford for both of us to go – and it makes sense for him to stay home with the dogs and not use leave on running around after me. And it is a long way to go. But I also know I am in good hands.

So I will finish Challenge 21 with F45 – then get started on this new project.

And I will try and be a bit better at keeping this blog updated with my progress. But as normal, everything’s on Instagram!
And just like with every other part of this journey, I’m more than happy o answer any questions you might have.

For now though, happy Sunday and take care of you,
t X
